Saint Rose of Lima School opened in September, 1951, directed by 8 Sisters of Saint Dominic (Adrian, Michigan) and served 400 pupils during that first year.

Under the leadership of Monsignor T. N. Fogarty the addition of the Monsignor Enright building housing spacious school office, library and science lab facilities was dedicated in 1979.

The Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Immaculata, Pennsylvania) were invited to administer the school in 1981.

In 1986, the school, under the leadership of Sister A. Bernard, I.H.M., received the "Exemplary Elementary School" award from the U. S. Department of Education.

Later, in 1988, another addition providing expanded art and computer facilities and early childhood facilities was completed at the northern end of the school property.

In January, 1991, Sister A. Bernard, I.H.M. was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Catholic Elementary Schools in Philadelphia and was followed as Saint Rose of Lima School principal by Sister Rita J. Murphy, I.H.M.

In 1994, Saint Rose of Lima School was awarded the "Blue Ribbon" award from the Department of Education, the second such award in only eight years.

Two years later Saint Rose of Lima Parish and School were proud to debut S. R. L. Online. Our website was the first Parish and School website within the Archdiocese of Miami.

After a nearly 13 year effort, an Endowment fund in excess of $2 million dollars was reached in 1997. The interest from such a fund can be re-invested as well as used to enhance school and parish facilities.

Saint Rose of Lima School continues its technology enhancement program with a refurbished computer lab during the summer of 1998.

In June, 2000, our principal Sr. Rita Murphy was transferred to St. Monica's School in Philadelphia.  Sr. Nancy Kindelan, I.H.M., a native of Miami Shores, was appointed principal of St. Rose.  We all welcome Sr. Nancy!

What lies ahead for Saint Rose of Lima as we enter a new millennium? Our school will continue to find ways to meet the needs of the ever-changing multi-cultural faith community in South Florida. Certainly, near the top of the list, is the need to stay atop the world of technology. Through technological advancements, we hope to continue to serve our community by being at the forefront as we enter the new millennium.
